The White Plague

PQ Common Design Project 2020 winner

Date
December 2020
This Design is an immersive and visceral response to The White Plague By Karel Čapek. Aiming to create an eerie parallel between the past and present. Allowing the audience to make their own connections between the time Čapek wrote the play and current events.
The Audience enter an old abandoned 1930’s theatre space. A projector is set to play. It is dusty and hollow. There is a quietly morbid atmosphere, the scent of bleach hangs in the air. Audience members are sat next to various states of deformed human figures, some still in full tact. Some chairs are merely occupied by piles of chalky dust. the auditorium feels full yet unsettlingly still.
